Our Meat History.
The Woodhow Goat Herd originates from that of the Lowther Park Farm organic herd. With first-class bearing we endeavour to continue those high standards set, the Cumbrian-Goat-Experience can provide quality and assurance of the meat we sell.
From the time of our animals being born and reared in a peaceful environment, we are able to offer trace ability of our meat and the standard of care it has received equally whilst alive, through to and after, slaughter.
How is our meat prepared?
Our goats live their lives from spring through to late summer or autumn outside on our pastures with their mothers. When the time comes, they are transported a short distance to a local, good quality abattoir where they are dealt with immediately.
All our meat is produced from prime young stock between the ages of 6 and 12 months. The meat is hung for at least 10 days and then prepared to the highest standards, thus giving it a succulent and flavoursome taste.
From the finest cuts prepared by our Butcher, our meat can be supplied tailored to your needs and requirements, with recipes produced by our award-winning Chef, all of this can be can be supplied direct to your door. We can also be found at numerous Farmers Markets and County Shows - the meat at the Cumbrian-Goat-Experience is well worth the satisfaction you will receive.

Herdwick Lamb and Mutton
The Herdwick sheep is the archetypal animal native to the Lake District and are thought to be the hardiest of the British breeds. The lambs are born with black wool, but this fades to different shades of grey with age. The head and legs are pale grey and the rams have horns. Herdwick meat is renowned for its distinctive taste and eating quality – a natural result of our lambs maturing slowly on their natural diet of heather, herbs and grasses of the Wasdale fells,
The meat is succulent, tender and tasty with a more gamey flavour than conventional lamb. Our lamb is not mass-produced, factory farmed or force fed but slow matured – it is ready, when it is ready. The stress free environment and high standard of animal welfare produces a meat of exceptional eating quality, with a fuller flavour and succulent texture. And we are not just saying this; a scientific study by Bristol University showed that the taste and texture of Herdwick lamb was superior to lamb from lowland breeds and that the meat contained beneficial Omega 3 fatty acids.
You can now order your Herdwick Lamb direct from the Cumbrian Goat Experience where it is produced – saving you money, retaining all the freshness from a unique fell farm. Our lamb can be ordered whole and half. A whole lamb weighs between 14kg and 18kg (approx 30 to 40lbs). butchered and delivered to your door ready for the freezer.
Tamworth Pork and Bacon
The Rare Breed Survival Trust is the leading conservation charity working to restore Britain’s native livestock breeds to their rightful place in our countryside. On the 2008 Watchlist; The Rare Breed Tamworth Pig is registered a Category 3, Vulnerable status. Here at the Cumbrian Goat Experience we promote the value of native breeds to our customers with an understanding of the Tamworth breed characteristics,
The Tamworth is one of the great ‘dual purpose’ pigs producing stunningly good pork as well as equally tremendous bacon. Regarded by many as the aristocrat of the pig world this magnificently long legged ginger pig with wonderful large pricked up ears will always command attention. We sell naturally reared pork, bacon, gammon, ham and sausage. We can supply half and whole pigs. Mouth watering, succulent pork with real 'crackling' that doesn't shrink in the pan, bacon that does not 'swim out of the pan' the minute you start to cook it and pure meat sausages with no filler, no additives, made from the finest cuts are always available for order.
We believe that pigs should be fed and reared as naturally as possible and therefore none of our food contains either 'growth promoters' or chemical additives. Pigs are natural browsers and grazers who gain much from spending as much time as possible in an outdoor environment. and our Tamworths at the Cumbrian Goat Experience are no exception having the freedom to move at will throughout our woods and forests they often produce good healthy litters. All our piglets are kept in their litter groups throughout their lives. The average age of the pigs at slaughter is usually around five and a half months. Because of the way these pigs are reared and handled, with virtually no stress at any time during their life cycle, the pork has such a distinctive taste putting it way above all the other breeds.
You can now order your Tamworth Pork direct from the Cumbrian Goat Experience where it is produced.
